A copy of a boat of the Bronze Age was launched in the south-east of England in the county of Kent, on the marina of the town of Dover. For the occasion, the spectators hastened to see this ship built on the scale ½. It is an imposing and astonishing project since the inspiration of this construction was the remainder of a boat found in the city in 1992.
Let us recall it, these types of boat were formerly used to cross the English Channel, 3.500 years ago of that. Thanks to meticulous research, a team of archeologists could recreate the model through methods and materials traditional. Work lasted one quarter.
The setting with the water of the boat was then made carefully last Sunday when the ceremony of champagne was respected by sprinkling the parts of the boat. For that, the persons in charge avoided breaking the edge of champagne on the hull. However, the boat took water and had to be gone up on the surface to prevent that it does not run.
Vis-a-vis that, the team charged of the construction of the boat quickly went from the front one. According to it, it is a formidable experiment, because it could acquire knowledge on the Bronze Age. This team is in fact made up archeologists and historians. The unhappy events which proceeded Sunday are then a proof of the lack of knowledge on the old manufacturing processes of the specialists in today.
To show at the great day this jewel, this counterpart of the boat of the Bronze Age will be exposed to Boulogne with the Castle-museum as from at the end of June. This exposure will also relate to the treasures of Guînes and on the life of the Bronze Age will be explained, called beyond the horizon and will last until November. In 2013, it will be Belgium which will receive this boat of 9 meters then it will go back to Dover before the end of the year. |
